Why will you love to make oat flour?

Making oat flour at home is easy, nutritious, and free of any additional ingredients, just oats. You can buy oat flour at the grocery store, but it is easy to make. Perhaps after this recipe, you will decide not to buy oat flour but to make your own and use it for anything that calls for oat flour.

Key ingredients and items you need for oat flour

Ingredients

  • Oats are the only ingredient you will need to make oat flour. If you are sensitive or allergic to gluten or just trying to avoid gluten, ensure you purchase gluten-free oats certified. I like old fashioned rolled oats by Quaker or Bob’s Red Mill, both are gluten free.

Items

What are the nutritious benefits of oatmeal?

Oats, known scientifically as Avena sativa, are among the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat. Oats are a great source of carbs and fiber and provide more protein than most grains (1). In addition, they are very high in vitamins and minerals.

How to make oat flour

Measure quick oats or rolled oats and blend them in your food processor until they are fine or until they reach the flour consistency.

Useful tips and tricks for making oat flour

Oats are naturally gluten-free; however, depending on the manufacturer, some oats may be cross-contaminated with other things, such as gluten. Make sure you select a certified gluten-free brand. If you like to shop for certified gluten-free oat flour, I like Bob’s Red Mill, or you can make your own following this recipe.

Instructions

  1. Measure quick oats or rolled oats and blend in your food processor until it is fine or until it reaches the flour consistency.

Note

Oats decrease in volume when they are processed. For any recipe that you are making, add about 1/4 more the amount of oats. For example, 1 cup of oats will make about 3/4 cups of oat flour. So, measure 1 and 1/4 cups of oats to make 1 cup of oat flour.
