What makes this movie theater popcorn “healthy”?
This movie theater popcorn is made with organic ingredients. It only takes popcorn kernels, ground turmeric, and vegan butter or oil. This popcorn does not have any additives or preservatives harmful to your health, and you have control over how much salt you add and the quality of butter you use.

How to make healthy movie theater popcorn step by step
- Measure 3 tablespoons of vegan salted butter or coconut oil, or any oil you like and place in a big pot on the stove top in medium to high heat.
- When the butter melts or the oil gets hot, add the turmeric and stir quickly, then immediately add the popcorn kernels. Stir more and cover the pot with a lid but leave it ajar so steam can escape. Reduce the heat to medium heat. Shake the pot frequently to avoid burning.
- Grab the sides of your pot with heat resistant mittens to protect your hands from the heat and shake the pot so that the kernels do not stick to the bottom. Be very careful. Shake until the popcorn starts popping.
- Let the popcorn pop for a little while and wait until the pops slow down. Remove immediately from the heat. Let the popcorn rest covered for about 5 minutes to prevent the popcorn jumping in your face.
- Serve and add salt to taste. You can add 2 tbsp melted butter for extra butter flavor.

Useful tips and tricks for the best Movie Theater Popcorn
- Substitutions
- Vegan butter: regular butter – salted or unsalted, coconut oil, olive oil, coconut oil or any plant-based oil that resists high heat.
- If you use real butter, there is a recommended process of clarification to do for your popcorn. However, you can use ghee which is clarified butter and avoid this process. I used vegan butter and I had no soggy popcorn, it turned perfect.
- Additional add ins: 2 tbsp melted butter for extra butter flavor, or 2 tbsp melted coconut oil for extra coconutty flavor. You can also add some pepper to add to turmeric’s absorption and therapeutic activity.
